You can find a couple somewhat new features under toolbar options and then clicking on experimental features. Most of these have been seen before:

Like Powdork my Google toolbar is showing it's the latest version but I can't see any references to Google Compute or a DNA style icon.
Must be some time delay in the Google Toolbar displaying the New! icon following it updating itself to 1.63. Last night 1.63 was on my PC, but no button. Then this morning the New button appeared.
I have thought more about this and have come to a decision that it relies on peoples ignorance of computers most people probably just get on with it.
But it also perhaps points out Googles ignorance of the world. Why does Google feel the research utility will be globally acceptable? After all it is not an American search engine but a global one.
With upadates like this Googleshould first ask and say hey do you want to support this charity by doing X and then let us decide.
Could money be involved? Why did google choose this, and not another research facility.
I love Google but this has really put me off using them.
deltakits - who are you referring to? I did not elect for Google to select a charity/research utility that will use my pc for anything
Then it is not using your pc for anything. That is the point, it is off BY DEFAULT!
The distributed computing option is off by default, so you have to opt-in to activate it. We did want to offer an easy way for people to help with this scientific problem though. If anyone is interested in the worthy cause of Folding@Home (protein folding helps people understand how to tackle diseases), they just had a few articles appear:
[news.bbc.co.uk...]
or

Part of that computation was volunteered by people who activated it on their toolbar. Again, this option is off by default, but it's a great/easy way for people to help out with a good scientific cause. :)
