I just got my first google rank bar on the toolbar im so happy. cant find my site under the keywords on the engines yet maybe ill move up now

There is no certain time for google to index your pages. But if you make link exchanges with at least a PR 3-4 web sites it's sure that your link will appear more shortly on google index.

If you have backlinks showing in Google, does this mean you will get a PR this next update? And Can I ask when the next update is expected?

I think that if your pages are indexed in google, your page rank will be at least "1" at the next page rank update. (Probably it updates monthly?)
