I read that Google recently finished a test with their toolbar, counting the average number of popups it catches per month. They found that if you have the toolbar installed in your browser, and you are an average internet surfer (about 2 hours a day), it blocks an average of 317 popups per month! It blocks about 700 a month for me, because I am on the internet for long periods of time, working on my site. I am curious to know about how many it blocks for you per month.

>>because I am on the internet for long periods of time, working on my site.

do you mean you get the extra popups because you use them yourself and you work on the pages thereby causing you to see more?
(sorry couldn't resist)

i think pop ups depends on the kind of sites you visit, certain industries being notorious, so i doubt you'll be getting many confessees to high rates! although as i surf mostly popup free and have done for years, i'm always astonished when i fire up ie and surf a bit.

the thing is it is an easy way for high traffic sites to make extra money, i like them as while they remain a success it saves someone coming up with a different way that i cannot bypass!

I use adsubtract, and it blocks 1,000 to 2,000 per day.

My wife gets over 4,000 blocked per day.

My wife gets over 4,000 blocked per day.

4,000 a day? Has anyone checked the system for adware?

I only ask since that seems like quite a few pop-ups! If she uses the Internet 10 hours a day, that would work out to a pop-up blocked every 9 seconds or so.

Cheers,

Chad

She has no adware of any kind. She spends a lot of time on the free host sites. Some days she gets a few hundred, some days a few thousand popups.

Our computer is actively on the Internet more than 10 hours a day.

We added the popup blocker almost immediately when it was announced and now have 2403 blocked PU.

Can't remember when it was first introduced.
