Fluctuating PR - hourly?

possible toolbar glitch?

I have a thread posted in the Google news forum with regards to backwards links [webmasterworld.com...]
I have developed another question that perhaps is more appropriate for the toolbar forum. I alluded to PR changing (according to the toolbar) rather frequently. This is a new site (just over a month old). It reached PR4 last week - then PR1 on the weekend for about and hour - then back to PR4. This morning it was back at PR1 - now 4 hours later - it is back to PR4.

Is this odd behaviour? I had heard that "G" was moving to more frequent rolling updates - is this what I am seeing? Or is it something else.....
hmmmmm ;)

No.

Not Exactly Sure what is up. I checked backlinks, on the G Dance Tool, and it shows both the old from last month and the new updated backlinks on various datacenters. G might be getting a bit confused again. This may be related to the PR also.

If it is of any interest - it appears as if Google is NOT a "morning" SE ;)
Each day this week - the site has been PR1 until mid-late morning it is back to PR4 (at which point the backlinks show up).

yeah, usually the pagerank was "dancing" for about 12-24 hours after the update, but even today, a few days after the update, it is still doing that.
It wouldn't be a big deal, but this time the backward links are changing too, and this totally messes up the SERPs...
I wish the Google_Guy would tell us what is going on.

I agree.... (sigh)
I understand fluctuations of +/-1 PR are common - but in my case it jumps from PR1 and PR4 then back to PR1 throughout the day. The site is predominantly PR4 - but since watching it the past week - it drops to PR1 several times a day. Maybe this is just because the site is very new and has only been PR1 or PR4? ....

To beat the dead horse, some datacenters don't have the new PR and backlinks yet. Either set your hosts file to one of the datacenters with the updated data, or just ignore the fluctuations. They don't mean anything.

I'm seeing the same thing. My site had a PR5, then all of a sudden it went to a PR7, and a PR8, then back to a PR5. Now for the past week it's been fluctuating between PR5, PR7, and PR8.

It's extremely surprising to see such a high PR given my site does not have many other sites linking to it. When I do a search for my domain in Google, it returns around 4700 pages.

Should I even have a PR8?

I think the PageRank of the other sites that link to you influences your own PR. My main site is an 8 and I only have maybe 40 sites that link to me. Figure that one out :p

It's been solid at 8 since December though so I don't know why exactly it would fluctuate as much as yours has, but it could be because the PR of one of THOSE sites changed.

My site is jumping from PR0 to PR6 all last month it was PR5, and now it's down to PR0 most of the time.

Yet sites it links to are PR4 so it apparently is passing along the PR.
