PageRank wrong on Google Toolbar

My E-commerce site has been in existence for a little over one month and yesterday I received a PageRank of 4 for all the indexed pages on my site. A few hours later, my google toolbar displayed a PageRank of 0 again.

I found this a little disappointing so I checked my PageRank through different third party Websites and all the results say that my site still has a PageRank of 4.

Does anyone have any knowledge of the discrepancies between the Google toolbar and the results I've obtained from other Websites that check the PageRank? I'm hoping that the Google toolbar is wrong but it seems to be working for every other site that I visit.

I've emailed Google to ask if I have been penalized and I am still waiting for their response.

Also, when I check my backlinks (link:url) through Google, I used to have more than 40 results. Now there are 0, but when I include a space between "link:" and my url, I see the 40 backlinks. Call me crazy, but I don't think I used to have to include the space to get the backlinks to my site.

Thanks for clearing up the google backlinks issue. I understand how that works now.

But as for the PageRank fluctuations, why do all the other PageRank Checking Websites show my previous PageRank of 4 and the Google toolbar shows a PageRank of 0? Is the toolbar correct?
