Why not take the voting buttons off the toolbar

...and put them on the mouse cursor?

I've got the Google toolbar installed with the voting buttons, but I don't use them. So, I had an idea. Why not have the opportunity to vote on the page that you're leaving as you click on a link on that page?

It would be fairly simple, and you wouldn't have to mouse all over the browser window to vote. Double clicking would just follow the link without voting, and single clicking would bring up a slider that would allow you to vote on the page that was just viewed. While you're deciding where to click on the slider, the new page would already start to load. Just an idea.

Don't the voting buttons only apply when you're doing a Google search? I'd have thought they'd be an annoyance if they came up *all* the time...

Er, and besides which, it's my understanding that they don't do anything other than make Windows go "BEEP!" :)

I think they are to rate the page in the browser window:

Maybe, but if this feature was part of the Toolbar plugin, it could easily be enabled or disabled by clicking on the Options button.

Well, as the number of pages indexed grows, user input might become more useful.

Great! Then I'll come up with a script to connect via thousands of random annon. proxies and vote my site silly!

Might be a good idea to test and see if I can get a PR bump. I agree that the voting thing is just a way to make a sound, and make people feel important.

Besides, Google isn't a democracy... it's not about to let the common man influence what it thinks is important or not!

I just used the sad face voting button - on my adsense stats page!
