My homepage has a PR of 5.... and a PR of 6

Is there any way I can consolidate those two?

Not that 5 + 6 = PR11 ;-)

default.htm is what shows up when you go to www.mydomain.com/ and that page has a PR of 5.

All other page in my site however point to index.html as the "Home Page" (which is just a copy of default.htm). That index.html is showing up with a PR6. I've tried it several times and those numbers seem consistent on all DCs.

Is there some way I can combine (?) them i.e. perhaps redirect one to the other and take a chance on making it a PR7?

Not that PR matters anymore but it would be cool to see the lucky 7 showing up.

hehe 5+6 is at best 6.000001 ;)

But what you're looking for is a 301 redirect. How, depends entirly on your server setup.

If that's the case then it's really not worth the bother :-(

Read the others threads. You are asking for a duplicate content penalty. You should change this right away. Why do you even have the default.htm page?

Why do you even have the default.htm page

Legacy stuff when we had to change hosts some years ago, they used a different title for the default home page, but we kept the old page because some people still linked to the old homepage by name. I know about the duplicate content penalty. Have a few pages with duplicate content. So far no penalty for several years (maybe because duplicate content is less than 0.01% of the site) so will get around to removing all (unintentional) duplicate content in due course.
