I'd been using a 3rd party site that used Google Maps to let you do something similar. Except that you had to add segments at a time, it was very clunky, and it was a huge memory hog.
However, one feature that site gives that Google Maps doesn't (yet, anyway) is an elevation graph showing your elevation gain/loss along the path.
