Google Toolbar and Backward links question

My google toolbar backward links reports only 26 entries for my website.

But if I type
www.mydomain.com -site:www.mydomain.com I get 43 entries

What's the difference between these two methods?

Is it possible that the difference is that the toolbar shows only backward links to the page you are currently at and the google query you enter shows the aggregated number for all the pages of your site?
