I noticed the what's new page has changed: [toolbar.google.com...]

Chances are your toolbar has already updated itself.

Sidenote: Have you always been able to hit shift+enter to open a toolbar search in a new window? Is this documented?

I don't know if it's documented, but I think you can set it to automatically (in the options somewhere) to open search from the toolbar in a new window, unless I'm allucinating :) I did have a few drinks and my vision dropped accordingly!!

I guess I got confused with the Opera search box that opens in the same window, although you might be able to set that one to open in a new window as well.

I guess I can go for one more ;)

i think the autoupdate is since version deleon-1.1.56.
look what i just found in squid's useragent.log:
Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; GoogleToolbar 1.1.57-deleon; Windows 2000 5.0)
(my ie toolbar is now updated to 1.1.58 as well)
