Speed issues with toolbar?

Does the Google toolbar decrease IE performance?

I got all excited about the Google toolbar a few months ago and immediately installed it. However, it wasn't long before IE performance went down. It continued to degrade until opening links in a new window sometimes wouldn't even work, and when it did work it was very slow. Back, forward, refresh--everything took far longer than it had before.

So I just had to reinstall Windows, and I haven't reinstalled the toolbar yet. My question is, are there known issues with the Google toolbar that cause poor IE performance?

Thanks,

Matthew

I found that having the toolbar installed slowed browsing on my old computer, but it was really old. It was a P200 cyrix chip with (I think) 16MB RAM. Oh and a 56k dial up. So pretty much anything used to slow it down. The change in performance was fairly distinct between toolbar on and toolbar off so I'm about 98% certain that was the cause. I used to turn the toolbar off (from the view menu) most of the time and only have it on when I wanted to search, and that worked fine.

Of course now I'm using ADSL with a brand new computer the toolbar works fine all the time :)

About the first ten sites I visited, and google searches I did were slow- now it seems to be back to normal. (on an adsl connection in Japan)
