Page Rank decreased

Went from 5 to 3, why?

I've recently been working to learn techniques for raising my page ranks on the Google search engine. One of my pages showed up about two months ago as a 5 after some determined work. Now, it is showing as a 3.

My question, why would a page drop in rank?

Thanks for any help.

Hello Kf

Welcome to WebmasterWorld

First of all I would not worry about TBPR all that much. It means vitually nothing in terms of how well you will be found. Better to have a PR3 site with boat loads of visitors than a PR7 with the odd kayak here and there.

The drop in PR is likely due to some links not counting towards TBPR any more, eg perhap you had guestbook links or ones that have now been banned. It is possible that some of the links that were there last month but during the crawl their server was down and now the links dont show and contribute. There is three possibles.

pay less attention to the tool bar if you can. Traffic rules over the TBPR.

Cheers

"why would a page drop in rank?"

Because the pagerank showing is from February. Ignore pagerank till Google fixes its problems.

hi

Steveb and ukgimp are correct IMHO.

Also freshbot used to guess pr and this was quite high. Once an update passed, often the pr would settle at a lower rate.

"Because the pagerank showing is from February."

How can one tell the age of the ranking data that the PR bar is working from?

My site which recently launched barely shows any green, but is up to 100K total hits per day (across 150 deep pages) from about 3K unique vistors per day. Based on this volume, what should the bar read (approximately)?
