Here is my prob: I maintain a site www.mysite.de with content in german language. It has (according to the toolbar) a PR5 which is imho not too bad for a german site. Since the last update in the Google-Directory theres no PR at all and the entry dropped completely to the end of the Page, allthough it still has PR5 in the toolbar and was in the middle of the field on the page for at least half a year.
Did anyone of you allready had similar expiriences?
Any idea what to do?
Btw. i also have www.mysite.com with the same content in english language, also PR5. This one shows still up nicely in the Directory.
(I don't talk about the site in my profile)
Thanx a lot in advance for any help.
I think maybe the directory is not quite settled (or the PR indicators are inaccurate). It looks like a directory update occurred, because I see new sites. However, a site of mine that has seen a major PR increase from a toolbar/web search standpoint is near the bottom of the directory PR.
I'd give it a few days and see what happens. It looks to me like a directory PR recalc is yet to come.
So, my guess is that the Google version is just a few weeks behind the DMOZ version. Give it a few weeks and everything should sort itself out.
If the problem persists, it may be related to one of the reasons I gave in my answer to the Zero Page Rank in Google Directory thread.
O.K. lets see:
* The indexed address is different from the DMoz address.
Nope. Same domains.
* The both the DMoz address and a duplicate were indexed; the other address is listed in the search engine.
No dupes.
* The page doesn't have any links from pages that have reasonable PageRank in Google.
The Page has 94 inbound-links, including some from articles in zdnet and other internet-related news-sites with fairly good PR.
* The page has a PR0 penalty.
My toolbar tells me PR5. Could it have a PR0 penalty without showing me?
So: does anyone have any further idea what to do? :(
Thanx a lot in advance.
I believe it's the toolbar PR that counts. I have a finnish site that has no PR in Google directory, but has had PR5 in the toolbar for as long as I've been aware of this PR thing. So I really don't care about the directory, the site gets nice traffic and I've stepped on the toes of some big boys in the SERPS!
> But this didn't affect the directory listing for the last couple of months...
Maybe www.mysite.de used to be in the Google search index, but now it's indexed as www.mysite.de/german/
Unless www.mysite.de was in Google's main index, I don't see how you could have had directory PR.
I have a Finnish hobbyist site (two languages though: Finnish and English). Since I got toolbar, in March or April, it has otherwise had PR6 although I lost two points for a month when my server had problems and lost a lot of pages just during Google's crawl. Next month I got my PR6 back. And visitors likewise.
Yet directory lists my site - without any PR - close to the end of the list. Sites above me have PR4. And directory search using my site's name gives "no results", web search gives my site. Directory search for my main Finnish keyword (appearing almost every Finnish page on my site) gives "no results", web search gives my site first (two pages).
I once wrote Google and asked about this but got no answer. The problem was even funnier then: directory search using my main Finnish keyword gave a couple of English sites which had no pages in Finnish. This does not happen anymore - because of my letter or otherwise, I don't know - but my site is still listed below and without PR, directory search gives "no results". And toolbar gives PR6, web search for my main Finnish keyword gives 1st position (two pages), in English it gives my site on the first results page.
Any explanations?

Could there be a slight difference between your address in the Google search engine and the address in the directory?
Yup. Yup. Yup.
G.
Yes, there seems to be. I just checked and found out that web search gives my address ending with "/" and directory leaves this "/" out (as does ODP).
Still it is strange that Google doesn't find the site at all if this "/" is lacking. ODP finds it fine without "/".
Perhaps I should again write to Google?
Katarina
I don't see how that would help.
yourdomain/whatever/ is a completely different URL from yourdomain/whatever, it just happens that your server issues a redirect from the latter to the former if people ask for the wrong address.
I would ask the ODP to correct the mistake. You _could_ change the address of your page from yourdomain/whatever/ to yourdomain/whatever, but unless you run your own server that may be difficult.
I'll write to ODP and ask them to corret the mistake which probably is mine = when I originally submitted my site there I knew so little about this things that I must have left / out.
Thank you very much - I just could not figure it out that this could be the problem.
