I wanted to know the common take on site:www.mydomain.com when searched on google.

What is the real relevance of such a search? Does it display the number of pages of your site in google's index? Also is this a perfect calculation of the number of pages on your site?

What about link:www.mydomain.com ...why does this show only 3 results when I know many more sites link to me?

No, it's not. Lately it seems to be way off at times, not really sure why. The link function hasn't been accurate for a year or two. Try using Yahoo instead -
