Google Search within my Site, but Retain my Design?

I'd really like to setup something similar to another one I've seen

While I'm not going to be giving away prizes, I'd still like to create a portal where members of a pre-existing community can use a simple page or two that looks like my site (including search results) but is powered by google.

You'll notice that when you search in Blingo that even the results are neatly captured within the 'Blingo template'. You still feel like you're using Blingo to a greater degree, not Google by itself. How would someone go about creating such an application?

I have an adsense account that has basic search insertion into existing sites, but there aren't many options for post-search formatting. If anyone clicks on the ads that would be a bonus to include my adsense account, but this would be of secondary importance to getting the 'look' down pat.

Where would be the first place to start making such a tool? Anyone here have previous experience in such an endeavour? Thank you in advance for any assistance you can provide.

Very good question, but you should probably remove that site as an example, or at least remove the .com (posting specific URLs and referring to sites by name is against WW's ToS). There are plenty of sites out that are Google-powered but keep their own interface; I've always wondered how they do it. The site you cite actually uses Picsearch to search for images, in addition to Google.

Sorry, I don't see an edit button for my first post. I'll try and remove it or get a moderator to edit it.

Anyone else have an idea how the sites are developed?

Hmm, seems like one of the less helpful forums at WebmasterWorld. the mod even edited a post but didn't bother responding...

API's are indeed the way forward. Yahoo and Google offer 'non commercial' use up to daily thresholds. I think Yahoo is much more generous, not an issue if you plan on less than 1000 searches a day though.

Just seach for 'XML feed' related resources to find easy ways to manipulate the data.

I would not use AdSense with the free Google search feed as it's bound to be an infringement of one of the T&C's.

Thanks, good to know. :)
