Yes - there are a few out there. Please head to the nearest search engine and search for one. (we'd just as soon not get into the tools debate again ;-)

Hugh, Brett,

Don't want to start an unwanted debate - but.. ;)

I too seek a toolbar making tool.. There are a million+1 flash .exe making thingies, but I can't find a toolbar making thingy anywhere.. BT. I think you've seen my G.News ticker - which is obviously what I'd go for as first bash but my perl doesn't run to windoze .dll's ;)

Is there some history of google add-on tools discussions? is it a bit of a faux pas?

Words to search for:

BHO (Browser Helper Object) <-- Technically this is what a Toolbar is.

Custom Toolbar

This should get you going in the right direction.

IMDB search... that's a really great idea. Allmusic is another good database I search often. Tell me if you find anything.

Having done the research on this........

-The "free" solutions require you understand the programming language. They are not plug-n-play, and as an intermediate level PHP programmer, I was baffled at how much the free solutions needed you to configure manually. I gave up.

-The plug-n-play solutions start at about $300 to $500 for a package that will create a toolbar for you without much fuss.

-Some toolbar providers will let you customize one for free as long as you leave their logo/link on the toolbar. (ie, useless for a commercial application)

Since this has nothing to do with the Google Toolbar, expect a thread move anytime......>>>

It may have a BHO, but technically the UI part is called a "band object" or "deskband". Because this is the programming term for IE's toolbars, searching for these terms will mostly turn up technical articles.
