News Icon in Toolbar!

Anyone see this yet?

It seems my toolbar just updated itself. As of 10 mins ago, I now have a "News" icon near my DNA strand.

I just dropped by to post about it and found this thread. I didn't even know Google had a "news" page. Is that new too?

Seeing as how I love Google News, I think that particular icon is a "good thing".

I'm happy to see the News icon too, but it's not working the way I'd hoped it would. I'd hoped it would search Google News for whatever I have in the search window. What it does, though, is just jump to Google News with nothing in the search box. The alt/title text banner on the News icon seems to confirm this is what was intended... "Navigate to the Google News site" instead of "Search the Google News site."

I'm guessing that making it search the News site would have complicated the phone home functioning.

I'm also dissapointed that it doesn't search the news section from the search bar. Because of where we live we costantly search for updated info and it would save us a step.

I'm sure they will add this in the future.
