MSN.com Page Rank greyed out!

Does anybody know why?

It appears that the MSN [msn.com] Page Rank is greyed out in the Google Toolbar. Does anyone see the same thing? Does anyone know why this has happened?

I noticed the grey bar this afternoon but figured it was a glitch with the toolbar.

Yep greyed out here. related/link/cache:www.msn.com dosn't pull any results but related/link/cache:msn.com does. Guessing its all just part of the update.

Still shows up for competitive terms like MSN etc, so it's probably just a glitch otherwise, it's the biggest PR0 since the days of Expedia (Which i believe i was the first one to find :D )

It's still doing gray bar and no cache for me on two computers right now. However if you go to the G home page and type the URL, it will show the cache.

It is still gray on my pc. Who knows, I may start to like google even more...
What makes me think is that I get a PR6 for a popup window that's opening from shopping.msn.com....

FWIW

UK version of MSN [msn.co.uk] is still showing PR of 7.

That's wierd, the first time I checked it PR of 7 showed, then when I checked my post the bar was grey. It is now flipping between 7 and grey on furher rechecks :o

Presumably whichever Google server it goes to gives a different result!

MSN does a lot of partnerships using subdomains i.e. "whatever.msn.com".

I don't like to get into what is SE spam and what isn't, but MSN is very aggressive when it comes to flooding serps.

Probably a well deserved penalty.

Just goes to show that you shouldn't worry about a grey toolbar. ;) I'll ask around--maybe we have a server down, or msn.com is canonicalized in some strange way..

My hunch is they have glich where they have separated www.msn.com and msn.com.

My backlinks and cache work fine for the no-www version.

I see PR9 now for www.msn.com. www.xbox.com is still showing gray for me.

Glad that you see PR for msn.com, Jane Doe. I see it from my toolbar too, using the latest version (1.1.70).

Sometimes people read too much into things. The reason www.xbox.com is gray is because they immediately redirect you to a much longer url with session id's embedded, and so we didn't get that page. I saw a nice note to us asking about it a few days ago, and I know that we sent back info on what happened and how to make it easier for us to crawl that page. There are static urls on xbox.com that do have PR: [xbox.com...] for example.

We have enormous respect for Microsoft--a few months ago, we even did a microsoft-specific search page on Google:
[google.com...]

It's a nice way to search for programming documentation, news about Microsoft, etc. I'm happy to dispel any misperceptions about this. Hiccups can happen anytime you crawl three billion urls a month--but I'm glad that that this is fixed.

Thanks for the explanation on the gray PR bars, GoogleGuy, althought I do get a kick out of it when my sites show more back links and higher PR than MSN sites. :)

FYI - I still see a gray bar from my tool bar (ver 1.1.70) on xbox pages without any session-ids, like www.xbox.com/default.htm.
