Removing search the web

On the left side of the toolbar is a blank space where you can enter a search term and click search the web. The webpage will then go to google and show you the results.

1. Is there a way to disable that so it doesn't show on the toolbar.
2. If not, is there a way to have it so it doesn't show the search history. I know you can click clear search history, but I'd prefer this to just be disabled if option 1 can be done.
