The consumer version of Google Plus, and APIs is to shut down in April, 2019, instead of August, 2019, the company says.
With the discovery of this new bug, we have decided to expedite the shut-down of all Google+ APIs; this will occur within the next 90 days. In addition, we have also decided to accelerate the sunsetting of consumer Google+ from August 2019 to April 2019. While we recognize there are implications for developers, we want to ensure the protection of our users.

Now is a good time to look at ways to download your Google+ data [support.google.com...] and to port it to another platform.

Memo to self: Add /about.html page to personal site (which involves about 90 seconds of effort, as all I'm going to do is copy the one I made for my “real” site, give or take a paragraph, I just haven’t the energy to put in those 90 seconds) and simply remove the G+ link from third site because who gives a ### who’s behind that particular site anyway.

Sigh.

Wasn't there mention in previous G+ announcements that the accounts of Google Suite/Work would continue to be operational on G+? I haven't seen that referenced this time.

I haven't seen that referenced this time.

All is says is that enterprise customers will be notified. I'm not sure exactly what that means.

That's terrible. I used Google plus as an escape from the censorship terror at Facebook.
Seems I have now to establish on VK.com

According to the stats, there were around 50 million users. which in the scale of things, is tiny. In a similar way to most other services, I wonder how many of those were false accounts in some shape or form. In addition, how much use did it get for the resources is required: Clearly not enough.
The latest news of the recent bug was probably the best reason the bring forward the demise of G+.

I wonder how many of those were false accounts in some shape or form.

I believe there was a time when anyone who had a Gmail, YouTube or Google Webmaster Tools account suddenly had an unrequested Google+ account created for them automatically.

I would guess that a lot of those could be classified as false.

The "automated" inclusion or REQUIREMENT for biz/map services was a killer for me. Good riddance to bad rubbish. Only a very small number will lament and wail... (those dependent upon g)

The anti-G+ sentiment is strong here...

I actually run some G+ channels that out-perform the same content on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and other SNS. They had better user interaction, and much better engagement with the content. G+ had its issues, but it wasn't all bad.

Some of what G+ developed seems to have moved over to business listings and maps. Although G+ will be going away, it looks like some aspects of it will linger on in that area. That may be a better place for it instead of a 'news feed'-type SNS.

As much as monopolies are not my best of kin, looking at this on another level, life might become unbearable with the sudden demise of all of google (I just wish they gave it a more adult-sounding name). RIP GooGoo
