Should I add $ prices to my UK site?

I manage a lot of uk sites. I am wondering if I should show the dollar price next to the uk-pound price - so that I can submit a feed to Froogle. Currently I provide a link to an exchange rate website.

This could generate more sales.

The bad thing is the extra work to update prices as the exchange rates are always changing.

Anyone else tried/thinking of this?

I suppose you could give it a shot, but currently Froogle only supports US stores that bill in USD. Having said that, I see loads of stores that are not based in the US that are listed. (they only show US prices though)

I use a payment gateway for CC payment (WorldPay a customer can pay in US$ when they come to pay.

The problem is displaying the prices in $ and £ and the admin

I think try and submit your USD prices to Google for your GDB equivalent and it should work...or probably youcould tweak your site engine a bit to have display both prices. Not a difficult deal....you could use simple math! and use some web currency expert like xe.com on your website to display current exchange rates etc!

If dynamic - you can use the above to obtain the rates from WorldPay.

If anyone knows how to read the above file into Perl, please let us know. Note: LWP::Simple does not work because it is a secure site.

P.S. I would cache the result file on your server if you read it in for at least an hour, otherwise your site may get blocked from accessing WorldPay after the recent DOS attacks.

Its not dynamic.

Its easy to have a link that says 'see price in any currency here' (e.g. at XE).

But Froogle requires prices displayed in USD. Its a lot of work to keep updating the price.

Yes....currency rates change daily and u cant be changing up all the time. Best is to have a central database where you submit the 1GDP=xyz$ and let the system take care of the rest.

Clearly, you must sell predominantly to US customers (irrespective of your stores location).

I suggest that you create a separate store for the US market, with dollar prices and shipping information. That doesn't necessarily mean that a whole new site - you could use your own site and depending on where the visitor is from display dollar prices and shipping costs.

Having said that I have helped list sites that display multiple currency on the same page. So that doesn't necessarily disqualify you.

I also use WorldPay and price products in $US (although UK based). I also like to use XE BUT the exchange rates are quite different between what XE and WorldPay offer. For example my $199US product converts to £103.67 on XE but would result in £108.77 being charged by WorldPay.

Shame really because I would like to include the XE tool on my site to allow prospective customers see how much they would be charged in any currency.

I thought about using XE - Im UK based but prices are listed in US$, in the end i didntthink it was worth it.

Maybe I get around 2 emails a year asking for this.
