We have opened a Froogle account and would appreciate some real good tips in getting started.

1. When uploading items in Froogle, anything I need to know to get better listings?

2. Is price necessary, or can we avoid it?

3. How can I check if we are actually listed in Froogle?

4. Any guidelines I need to follow, in order for us not to run into any spamming, banning issues?

5. Any other experiences and tips would be greatly appreciated.

I would never avoid price, but I don't think it's neccessary. What I like about froogle is sometimes it gets you some google hits at the top of a SERP for free. You can't beat that exposure for the price.
