As far as I know, there's no way to turn off AIO for mobile Chrome, but on desktop Chrome, you can.

To get to Chrome's Settings, you just go to the three dots menu in the upper right corner, then go to "Manage search engines and site search" and scroll down to "Site Search" and click on "Add".

There you can create a bookmark that will show your search results without the AI Overviews. You create your own custom bookmark using any Name and Shortcut you want to use. The new URL for the bookmark is https://www.google.com/search?q=%s&udm=14 and remember to click "Add" after filling out the Name, Shortcut and URL. ?q=%s&udm=14 is the URL parameter to show only results without the AI Overviews.

You'll still see ads but the AIO is gone. I'm curious whether they might note searchers using that parameter and decide we don't like their AIOs?

I read about this in an article related to DuckDuckGo's AI removal at: https://www.washingtonpost.com/technology/2025/07/22/opt-out-ai-google-search-duckduckgo/

I suspect that will be real time confirmation on AIO avoidance. Meantime, wanna bet that won't actually change much? After all one is still using their tool and that tool always phones home. Sigh.

Wonder why the limitation is for DESKTOP? Isn't that a waning user group?

I don't use Chrome, but I have friends who do so I thought it would be helpful to know how to disable it. No question that Chrome is Google's tool, but if you use Chrome, it's good to know how to lose the AIO.

Mobile Chrome is a different and less customizable tool.

Well, if you append the search with minus ai "-ai", you can turn it off.
