Microsoft Edge Won't Start

I'm not sure when this happened, but Microsoft Edge will not start on my Windows 10 laptop. It can't have been that long ago that it failed to open.

I've scoured the Net and there are plenty of reports over the years, with all kinds of solutions, including repairing the browser, which I've done.

Nothing has worked.

It seems odd.

Any ideas?

A friend had a similar problem. For some reason Edge was running in the background at all times and would not open a new instance. Clearing that error, deleting cache/cookies, and a hard restart on the computer seemed to fix it... at least Edge starting working from the desktop once again.

Never had the problem myself. Then again, I don't use Edge on a routine basis.

It seems it is a relatively common problem. The solutions are often quite complex, including editing the registry, and I don't like doing that.

It wasn't running in the background.

As far as I can pinpoint (guess), it happened after the last Tuesday update.

After three further (four in total) Repair procedures it worked this time.

I'm glad to move on from this waste of time.
