With the release of Chrome 63, users will now have the option to to disable audio for specific sites, and the muting will remain set in subsequent sessions.

Chrome 64 will go further and will allow autoplay if the media won't play sound, or if each user chooses to accept the media. With this release the settings will be unified across mobile and desktop.

This is a good move. Kudos to Chrome (my favorite web browser.)

Autoplay seems to have made a significant, although sneaky, comeback across the web. This was once considered very bad form. I guess greed is still making business decisions.

Until Chrome includes this feature, I'll continue to use the Chrome extension "Disable HTML5 Autoplay."
