We have a very large website mostly listings of our products and product information pages. Google has registered about 100k pages and the site was getting about 600 users a day but now last few months it has gone down. Even though the number of pages in google index is similar the number of user visiting our site has gone down to less the 150 a day.
I read somewhere google doesnt like large sites, is this true? should i remove/stop search engines registering some of our pages.
Also we have quite a few incoming links but most of them dont show up on the backlinks.
I am not sure if the traffic change is because of number of incoming links or the number of pages would really appreciate any help on this..
Also at the moment i only have one way incoming links, should i get reciprocal links, does google like this or not?
Thank
David
thanks for the reply...
the site is 2 and half years old and the pr is 6.
Only some pages have unique content, most of the pages display product specifications and product listing, and there are other sites which sell the same products...
will getting reciprocal links help the site? at the moment i only have oneway links.
thanks
david
Your PR is nothing to be ashamed of, so I would think that's not it.
As for reciprocal links, there appears to be a general consensus, which I will not ascribe to unless I see evidence, that quality outbound links using the appropriate text is a helpful thing. I'm not convinced of that. I would rather believe that internal site links would be able to accomplish the same thing without draining PR from the site as outbound links do. Also, frankly it doesn't make much sense to link to others if you have an ecommerce site.
As for large sites, I have one and get many many times the number of users you do from Google. But my pages are unique. Whether I would get even more if I broke up the site, which would make absolutely no sense in my case, I can't really say. But Amazon doesn't seem to be hurt very much by a large site.
I personally am not a big fan of heavy recip. linking. You never know when a nieghborhood is going to go bad, and take you down with them. But if you can get recip links with the product manufacturers, that would be very beneficial.
I am agree with diamongG, You try to get the new & fresh content for your products like product description and others modoficatioin that can make the visible changes to the web page. Your Pr seems to be gud. Dont go for link exc. bcoz anysite can go bad from the G point of view. and as u sell so there is no point to link anybody. Go for the fresh content and wait for the next time.
