I just started with google adwords and I been trying to figure it out for hours now without any luck.

I have this one Campaign with 3 impressions, cpc of $0.11, and it says Avg. Pos is 17.4. When I origially put the keywords in it said my Average Possition would be 3.4 or so.

Whats going on?

Hi,

The predicted position that you see when you set up / amend bid levels is often incorrect.

There are 2 ways to end up with the sort of ad positioning you want.

The first is to initially bid high and progressively lower the max CPC you are prepared to pay until you get a balance between CPC and CTR that you are happy with.

The second is to do the opposite. Bid low to start with and progressively bid higher until you are happy with the results you are getting.

The first technique can be expensive in the short term, but at least it'll send visitors to your site and provide you with an insight into your conversion rates and ROI.

The second technique is better if your budget is restricted and you are prepared to wait a few days until the visitors start arriving in the numbers you want.

Do I have to wait for the ads to be approved?

Usually your ads run immediately and are reviewed by Google soon afterwards.

There are exceptions:
1. If you use 'suspicious' keywords in your ad copy or keyword list. These are usually porn terms.
2. If your ad copy fails one of the automatically applied rules, such as excess capitalisation.

In these cases your ad is not served until the Google team have approved it.

I also had to rewrite an ad because it repeated one word from the title that was in the text.
