I'm starting a website, based in the UK, a while ago I had an adwords account which is still active but in US dollars, doesn't this mean that I have an advantage over people bidding in UK pounds?
Is this allowed by google as I don't want to set up the account and be forced to close it.
Does google add extra VAT onto the bill at the end of the month at the US rate?
My customers are UK, USA and the rest of europe in fact.
Regards Martin
I pay 1 cent/click on some keywords. The minimum if you're billed in GBP is 1p/click (around 40% more in real terms). Scale that up across thousands of clicks and it can represent a substantial saving.
However, it means that all my ROI calculations and accounts have to cover USD and GBP, which is a hassle.
I don't quite understand the last part, that the accounts have to cover USD and GBP?
You just have one adwords US currency account targeting all UK and USA customers for a website. It seems from reading other posts on the topic that it is ok to be billed in $US and google don't mind? If you had the chance again to choose to be billed in US currency would you?
Cause I believe once you start to build CTR % etc up, then having to switch currencies means you have to start again with a new account paying the high prices that you did at the start, so I want to get it right first time round :)
Google don't mind if you're based in Britain but billed in USD. But they also bill in USD, so the price you pay is at the mercy of your credit card company's exchange rate.
I would probably choose USD again, but wouldn't lose too much sleep either way - unless you are willing to spend days sourcing 1 cent keywords. When the minimum CPC used to be either 10 pence or 10 cents, my savings were far more substantial.
