I appreciate your brevity and medical advice-but surely it is not in Google's interest for me to climb up the serps as eventually I may spend less on adwords.
Actually, it is in Google's best interest for it to known and relied upon that there is no connection at all between AdWords and the unpaid search results.

Many times us webmasters/advertisers will opine about subjects and be anywhere from : "not even close" ... to "spot on" with our educated guesses about some of the finer points of Google's advertising program which are left to the imagination due to the competitive nature of online marketing.
However, we are also fortunate enough to receive clarification & guidance from AdWordsAdvisor, whenever the subject matter permits. When in doubt, use AdWordsAdvisor's postings as defacto rules...

Actually here in England people are not as competitive on adwords as in the USA-so we have a few years before CPC goes up too high. Thus I am pleased with our return from adwords and feel we get good results. Some people here rely on SEO to get themselves high in the SERPS but there seem to be a lots of companies offering optimisation tips-some of whom disappear with your money. In the end, adwords is more straightforward.
