Payment declined on my debit card even though it has a lot of money

So, I've been using this same debit card since Jan 1, 2006. It has already received near 16 succesfull charges.
But today, all of the sudden I receive an email from adword system telling me that the payment was denied, even tough I have enough money to cover it and lot more.
They used my backup card to cover the payment.
Have this happened to you?
Since I'm using a business debit card, I don't want my personal debit card to be used unless an extreme case of lack of money, which is not the case now.
What's your experience? Should I blame the bank or google?

Your credit card must have a daily/weekly/monthly spending limit, and that limit has been reached.

Maybe Google tried to charge you twice on the same day, or you have increased your inversion to the point that you daily spend more than your credit card allows you to.

It has happened to me many times. The solution: Talk with your bank to increase the limits on your credit cards.

It could be the payment processor. A number of times we have tried to charge a customer's card, but had it declined. We try again 10 minutes later and it's approved.

Hopefully, Google tried to charge again a few minutes later instead of automatically suspending accounts. This is a good reason to have a backup card on file with Google. (Then again, if the payment processor is being flakey, the same problem may affect the second card as well.)

This has happened to me and everytime it is because the bank have put a fraud check on it. I thus have phone up and verify that the last transactions on the card were valid so as they can remove the stop on the card. I can go a 6 months without this happening and then it happens out of the blue. Its hard to work out how the bank operates because it isn't as if my spending patterns had changed.

thanks for your comment. It seems that my case. On same day a expended five hundred on domains regs on moniker, it was accepted correctly. Also namecheap and even a paypal verification charge was on same day. Just Google charge was denied for a mistery reason.

Could it be too much similarity within the last succesfull charge and the failed one? I'm seeing there are only a few cents of difference!

Just happened to me this morning, holy cow am I losing money without my ads up. I put in a backup but it hasn't been charged yet. Calling my adwords rep now...

Interestingly this has just happened to us - half an hour ago.

A bit of thought revealed the fact that a new credit card had been issued since details were first entered into the adwords system a couple of years ago.

The problem?

The old card had reached its expiry date... Sorted!

I actually had Google debiting my card for months when in fact the expiry date was expired. It would be good if we were notified of when expiry dates are about to expire.

It happened to me so many times...I normally get up late so this will get unnoticed for several hours.I see most of this things happen with visa and mastercard. Also Visa Debit card has a 10k daily limit irrespective how much money you have in your bank. This is really stupid in my opinion.

Get a american express card. In my limited expirence it works fine with adword and i never had a payment decline with it.

I've had my American Express card stopped twice because Google claimed my card was declined, even though AmEx had no record of Google trying to submit a claim for payment. Both times, re-entering the credit card information in AdWords (which hadn't changed), fixed the problem.

Is that possible that Google has blocked your credit card? I have ever seen that the credit card declined and a few weeks later, the account has cancelled by Google Adwords Support.
