When you pick your ads to show in search network Google show your ads in other search engines and Google search itself. My main problem is I know Google might work but I had horrendous experiencies with "content network" and "search netowrk"
Basically I had tons of clicks completely usefull (and probably some fraudulent) my conversion rate didn't got better at all and my costs where so high and so fast that I should stop those.

However if I might pick where in the search network show ads I could have a control over those campaigns and determine where ads work. As far as I know you can't do that directly but experienced users might have a workaround...

I wouldn't cast off the entire search network - there are many great sources of traffic contained in there. Now, there are some really terrible sources as well, but in my experience the good outweighs the bad by far.

That said, you may provide data to Google of just how terrible the terrible sources are... and you may have luck, like I have, to be opted out of these sites.
