New Adwords Account

I created a new Adwords account using an e-mail address that I've had for years but have never used anywhere before. The day I signed up for an Adwords account I began receiving loads of spam to this e-mail address.

I am very steammed about this. You'd think their servers would be more secure than this.

Hi,

Very very unlikely to be a leak from G directly.

Did you create your a/c from a machine (eg in a Internet cafe) that may have had spyware such as a key logger in it?

(If so, change all your online banking, etc, details from a different, clean machine ASAP!)

Well I will say this about that. I have email accounts that I created ONLY for AdWords, and that I have used ONLY with AdWords for three or four years now, and by now those addresses do get a ton of spam. They are not published anywhere, on any website, and I do not post to Usenet or any forums with them. They are *solely* for the purpose of logging into client AdWords accounts.

The one gmail account I created for my overall MCC doesn't seem to be getting as much spam, and I actually HAVE posted to groups with that one.

But that first bunch - they're practically worthless now because of all the spam. If Google isn't letting those addresses out somehow, where is the spam coming from? It's remotely possible it's from a dictionary attack, but the name I used is not a common name nor something even a dictionary program would be likely to come up with on twelve or so widely diverse domain names.

Could it be spyware on your computer detecting you using an e-mail ID on a form on a web page and transmitting that information to a server somewhere?

Not for me, no. No spyware here.

That's interesting. I haven't had that problem and I have used the same email account for almost a decade.

Hi,

Well, if you both have this problem, then maybe there is a leak that G needs to find and plug.

Send details to their support team. If you get nowhere (after (say) a couple of weeks) sticky me the mail esaddress in question and I'll get them to a couple of people of very high integrity that I know within G and see if they can get the ball rolling. But again, I just don't think that's the way that G operates. I'm sure AWA would be appalled at the idea of her multi-billion-$ employer hawking/leaking email addresses to SPAMmers for example.

Bring out the sick bags! B^>

Well we know that this isn't the problem. Perhaps their server security has been compromised in some way.
