Premium Ad's - How do I get one?

I am sure this has been answered, but I have searched the site and google and I am unsatisfied with the results that I have found.

Can someone point me in the right direction?

My ad's fall down the right side of the page, what do I have to do for them to be right at the top?

Thank-you!

Bowdii, you are correct that this topic has been discussed dozens of times on this Forum, so there is a lot of discussion available - but let me see if I can help.

I'm due at a meeting in just a few minutes, so only have time to post the headlines, which are:

* There is not a way to ensure placement in the top spots above the search results.

* The algo for top placement is essentially the same as for placement on the right, except that it slightly weights relevance over Max CPC. This is because the algo uses actual CPC rather than Max CPC in the calculation. So bidding higher (a higher Max CPC in other words) is less effective.

* Only ads which have been reviewed and approved can be promoted to the top spots.

Hope that makes sense, and helps at least a bit.

I have had great success in moving my clients ads to the top sacred blue bar. What I do is optimize my ads once they have been running for a while, drop off all poor performing keywords and strive for a 2.5% CTR. That seems to be the magic number. I've had 3 clients so far make it into the blue using this technique.

Good luck.

Same answer as "How do I get to Carnegie Hall".

Practice.

I had a weird one the other day. I checked my account around 9AM PST, and noticed that I had a 50% CTR on one ad group, with most of the clicks from two specific keywords. Now, this ad group generally runs pretty high, and was running as high as 20-30% during the Christmas selling season. But 50% just seemed impossible.

I put in a fradulent click investigation request.

The activity didn't continue throughout the day, but it did give the ad group enough extra clicks to significantly skew the day's results.

Google found that this was "normal user activity" and noted that CTR will be higher when an ad runs in the blue box.

I had to concur with them, after noticing that my conversion rate did not drop. It was exactly the same as in recent days.

I've gotten the blue box down to an art. I'm lucky to be advertising against competition that prefers to paint with a broad brush. Google definately rewards specificity.
