Having trouble understanding the matching options in google. Have they changed?

I have the following keywords(example) in one of my ad groups:

shoes -broad
"Shoes" - phrase
[shoes] - exact

Is setting my keywords this way, a good thing to do?
I am kind of confused. Before on a different ad group I used just put just the broad equivalent ONLY, for example:

Shirt - not "shirt"

I received a high volume of impressions and clicks.

Now if I just leave the broad, I don't get the same results.

I spoke to my account manager, she said, "she recommended putting all the match types as well as all the singular and plural forms of the keyword".

is this true?

Welcome to the AdWords Forum Eskimo1975!

Have they changed?

Nope, no changes of which I am aware.

Now if I just leave the broad, I don't get the same results.

This could be easily due to a number of factors, including:

* Have you recently opted out of the content and/or search network?

* Or, if you are opted in to either or both of these networks, have you edited your ads recently? (If you edit your ad, you are essentially creating a new ad, which will have to be reviewed and approved before running on network sites -- and this can bring your impressions down.)

* Have you lowered daily budget or Max CPC?

I'll leave the question of whether it is a good idea to use all three match types to others. I think you'll find a variety of opinions on that subject in past threads. ;)

Thanks for the response!

The only thing different I have done is deleted my High performing words from one group, and added them to another for organizational purposes.

Maybe I shouldn't have?
