Message Too Old, No Replies

I was so naive when I first started with AdWords

I was afraid of blowing my budget right away

I thought all I needed to do was write some ads, develop some keywords, set a budget, and the clicks would start pouring in.

I was really more concerned about using my entire budget too fast. I thought I could easily buy all the traffic I wanted.

I was wrong!

After repeatedly checking my stats and watching the clicks slowly trickle in I realized it was not as simple as I had presumed.

Over time I have learned that the key to AdWords is relevance. My keywords need to be relevant to my ad copy. My ad copy needs to be relevant to my web site.

Where I once had 2000 keywords on a single ad, I now have 5 to 10 keywords per ad. Some ads have only 1 keyword.

I am starting to get more clicks now, but still not as many as I am willing to pay for.

But, I continue to learn. This is how I started my AdWords education. Where do I go from here?

Bingo! This is what people need to do.

Are you tracking which keywords convert for you?

I'm not tracking individual keywords for conversions right now, but I realize I need to. Right now I just get a general idea by analyzing which keywords are generating traffic. Hopefully traffic will grow to a point where analysis will be meaningful.

All I can say is that I love site targetting.

Before, I had to throw a ton of money at a keyword to get on good content sites and then most of the clicks I was buying were coming from junk sites.

Now I can spend my money CPM and get thousands of impressions on exactly the sites I want for less than 1/5 what I was spending a day. And, even better, each impression gives me the whole adblock. I've shifted 90% of my budget to content.

Now I just have to hope no one puts me on their block list.

I've heard about site targeting, but that is about it. Does Google let you specify it from your control panel, or do you have to find a site you like and target from that end?

I added site-targeting a couple of days ago, but not had ANY impressions. Nada!

Is there a delay before the action starts?

Hi pete532, and welcome to WebmasterWorld!

Is there a delay before the action starts?

Yes - ads will need to be reviewed and approved before running on the content network. The time-to-review will vary with the volume of ads submitted, which is probably pretty high just now.

Can we say 7-15 days acceptable? I don't think so. That's what we are experiencing with Turkish ads & Turkey right now.

We are trying to convince very big clients and that's how Google helping us.. Thank you..

I would say there is another problem if you are seeing a 7-15 day delay.

1) Extremely questionable ad text.
2) You are bidding too low CPM.
3) The site in question has already added you to their blocked list.

Not at all, i have two different mcc accounts and having same problem on every ad. All of my friends are experiencing the same problem. They also answer our mails in 5-7 days with default messages that don't solve our problems. I guess they are short of personel for Turkish section, but still accepting new clients of course.

I don't doubt your lengthy delay. When I first tried site targeting, I waited weeks even though I kept raising my CPM bid, eventually to absurd levels. When I finally complained I got an apology but no real reason for the delay and my ads were approved without question. I suspect they looked at my budget and that's why I got an apology and quick action. Budget is king at Google when it comes to responsiveness. I agree that the real reason for your delay is probably lack of manpower to evaluate Turkish ads.

Hi,

G seems responsive to me (within 24 hours of an email about ad reviews for example) even though my budgets are usually *tiny*, especially when I'm testing out a new feature.

I suspect that IF-MONEY-BIG OR YOU-ASK-NICELY then things will be done quickly.

YMMV
