What do you make of this?

CPC fluctuation.

I recently lost my spot to another affiliate. When I upped my CPC I got it back and was doing about .08 cpc. Shortly after, it goes up to .18 cpc.

If I take my ad down for a bit and let the other ad outrank mine, then put mine back up, I get that .08 for a short time then back up to a high ammount.

Any logical reason for this? The keyword has a 38% CTR with months of consistant traffic totaling 16K clicks.

It's almost like the person below me increases their bids when my ad is up.

38% CTR? whoa!

The highest I ever hit was 25%!

Just out of curiosity, what kind of volume does this keyword provide within a 24 hour period and on a maximum budget?

My keyword was at 25% CTR and was giving me 15,000 clicks a day :-)

I lost it to some sleazy competitors ... :-(

It isn't high volume. About 250 clicks per day with about 600 impressions. Certainly not high, but it has done that consistantly for months.

I just don't understand why I get this cpc fluctuation in the beginning.

Im sure thats what hes doing.

Your competitor is probably just increasing their bid whenever your ad shows, then when you disappear hes able to lower it again. May even have some software that automatically adjusts his bid to where it needs to be to find position 1, or higher than you.

so why would he increase when mine is up and not the other person? He is below both of us...
