Google Adwords Approved Today, Disallowed Tomorrow

No set standards for approving ads

It seems Google has no set standards for approving or not approving ads for keywords. One day your ad is approved for the keyword(s) the next day it is not. When you email and ask them why, you get back a canned answer that never addresses the root of the problem. I recently asked them why my ad stopped appearing after running successfully for a couple of weeks and received back this reply

"If a site contains particularly adult material, we have to restrict it to queries that are unquestionably adult in nature."

Well guess what, every sponsor on the page is adult in nature, every web site on the first page of the query is adult in nature. The search term is adult in nature as evidenced by Google returning only adult sites for the query. This is not a graphic pornsite, we have no nudity on our splash screen.

Anybody have any idea why google applies it standards selectively only to some sponsors and not all? I'm at my wits end in dealing with Google. Any suggestions on how to get Google to apply the same rules to all the sponsors bidding on the keyword?

There is only one thing to say about the editors. They are human. One person interprets the rules differently from another.

Contact adwords. Point out the other ads. This will either accomplish your ad being reinstated or the other ads being removed, or you will at least get an answer to why their ads are running and yours are not.

One editor says its ok to put "aff." on your ad. another says you have to put "affil." then another comes along and insists it must be "affiliate.".

Currently im on "aff." .. but im taking bets on how long it is before 1 of them disapproves it :)

My company had trouble with this for a while. We made a ton of noise. Now we have one contact for our ads. He takes a while to get through them all, but the ads run before they are reviewed. If we ever have any trouble he straightens it right out. Seeing that we drop around 50k/month with google, I am glad we have gotten a form of personal service. I don't directly supervise that any more, but my compatriot tells me he has not had an ad denied in a year. We have learned how to do it right I guess.
