Why is the min bid so high yet I appear above everyone?

I pay the min bid yet show on top...what gives?

Why do I have to pay a minimum bid of say $.40, yet when I see my ad, I am at the top?

I am just creating my ad for the first time and there is no bad history for my keyword. It just seems to start me out a totally unrealistic bid.

Are the people below me paying less?

minimum bid on a keyword varies by advertiser and by ad group - it may tell you minimum bid 1.00 while another advertiser sees minimum bid 0.25

Perhaps it has started you out at an unrealistic expected CTR?

Although in that case I would have expected it to lower your minimum bid. Perhaps Adwords is trying it on and you have caught it out.

solved, i put the keyword in a totally irrelevant adgroup that i dont use anymore and it now only cost .05

What a terribly flawed system...
