Why No Small Jumps?

I've got a couple campaigns running. I'm trying to keep my bids at the bare minimum. Since I started the campaigns two days ago I've been asked TOO frequntly to increase my bid.

I've noticed a trend and I thought I'd ask whether anyone else is seeing the same thing.

In my text ads the lowest bid I've seen it $0.05. The next step up that Google asked me for was $0.10 After that every increase has been for $0.10 at a time.

I'm running a image ad too. I haven't turned on too many of the keywords because they simply cost too much. when I started out most of the keywords were for $1.00, but there were a couple that only cost $0.50. I activated them, but it didn't take too long for Google to try to get $1.00 for the word. I activated selected words at $1.00 just to be able to test out whether the image ad would do anything or not. Now Google is asking for $5.00 for the keywords I had activated. THAT'S TOO MUCH. I can't imagine being able to get any ROI if I pay $5.00 / click.

I've been getting some clicks on my text ads, and some of the most clicked keywords have been increased. I think I my biggest performers started at $0.20 and now they are up to $0.50.

For the image ad I haven't managed to get any clicks. I'm just running on the content network, and maybe there isn't a website using Adsense that matches my keywords.

Text
Min $0.05
First jump $0.05 to $0.10
After that $0.10

Image
Min $0.50
First jump $0.50 to $1.00
After that $4.00 to $5.00
I guess Google will try for $10.00 next.

Is everyone seeing these kinds of jumps in price? :(

There is not much logic in a lot of these bid prices. I used to bid on certain words, but now they are WAY out of price range, even silly keywords that by rights should be no more than .05 are going for $5.00, its insane.

I agree. Google's machine mind doesn't seem to follow any rational logic. A computer without logic is chaos.
