Average Postion Estimate

Can I improve accuracy of the estimate?

Should I pay any attention to Goggle's Traffic Estimator? It doesn't seem to present forecasts that bear out in real life.

For example, one of my keywords has a forecasted average position of 6.1, while the actual average position is 24.7.

How can I get a beter idea of where my cost per click will rank me?

Best regards,

Don,

Welcome to Webmasterworld.

Trial and error. The nice thing is you can see your new position usually within minutes of making a change to your bid.

Best of luck.

The estimator tends to be inaccurate on many different things. How many clicks to expect, what you will possibly pay per click and what position your ad is most likly to appear at for your bid. I think it is due to the fact that competitors will have different campaign settings (Countries, daily budgets, etc) that the estimator can not take into account. Your competitor may bid enough to be in the #1 spot but if her DB is set to a 1/3 of the max, she only appears a 1/3 of the time, so you would move up to #1 when she isn't there. The lower position may also have to do with the broad match. I am not sure that the estimator can adjust for broad matching. These are just educated guesses as to why it is not accurate.

AmericanBulldog is right. It is really a trial and error thing. Your best bet is to let it run for a day or so and then adjust according to the actual results.

That's what I was afraid of. Trial and error it is, then.

Thanks for your help, people!
