Adwords noob - first post

Hi all - just signed up for adwords today. I've been an adsense publisher for nearly 2 years now, so thought it was about time I dipped a toe in the water.

I haven't contemplated adwords before simply because my content rich site is in the top 3 on most search engines for the prime keyword, and usually shows up on the first page for most relevant searches. I thought I'd have a go at seeing if I can get in some additional relevant traffic that will a) browse the site, and b) click on my ads. I need to be able to earn more from the new traffic than it costs me to acquire obviously.

I've targeted the US and UK because that's where my traffic comes from, and my advertisers are located. I've chosen keywords that people use to get to my site. I've set a modest budget to see how it goes.

Is there any advice that the members of this forum can give to a noob to get the best out of adwords?
