Do Adwords ads start slow?

Hello,

I opened an Adwords account a couple of days ago to market my software and I find some things strange!

For example, my product name is not a dictionary term so google marked it as a spelling mistake when I used it in the description lines. They said I must request an exception before continuing. So I did request that.

Then I found that I could not use the term "explorer" in my ad text becuase it is trademarked. Again, I had to request an exception.

In both cases, there are no indication when the requests will be reviewed and whether the ads will run before that.

Then, after setting up a few Ad Groups (yesterday), I tested whether my ads appeared, but they didnt. So I ran their "Ads diagnostic Tool" and that confused me even more.

For some keywords, it reported that the ad is being shown, when clearly I dont see any ad when I search. For other keywords, it said that there are no matching keywords even though I had the keywords ( I checked thrice to make sure there were no spelling mistakes). All keywords are in "normal" status and no ad group or campaign is paused. Furthermore its not like there is any competition for the keywords - when I search using the keywords, no ads ( from anybody ) come up.

Google says the ads will be running in minutes, but I still see no signs of my ads( almost 2 days now). I dont know what the deal is ( maybe becuase its the weekend :-) ), but I would really appreciate some information/tips on how to start/use google adwords. Do the ads always start slow? Is there a "cooking" period?

Regards

First off, Google rarely approves exceptions over the weekend, so if you opened an account on Friday or Saturday, it'll be Monday/Tuesday before the team reviews the ads.

If your keywords contain anything of a 'sensitive' nature, they must be reviewed prior to showing.

It's becoming more and more common for a brand new account to wait a few days before everything goes live.

I started my Adwords account on the 14th, but it was actually the 18th before my ads started running. I even e-mailed them. I did get a response saying my ad was flagged and required review before running. Not sure why though, pretty generic, no trademarks that I am aware of.

Anyway, after it was up and running, I started seeing some numbers pretty quick, even with the three hour delay noted on their reports page.
