I have good position with my ads and great CTR, but no impressions; seems like the traffic has just stopped for a few days now. Has anyone else had this problem? Have any ideas?

Cl Imp CTR CPC Cost Pos
6 230 2.6% $0.09 $0.50 3.7 0.00% $0.00
3 36 8.3% $0.09 $0.27 3.6 0.00% $0.00
1 17 5.8% $0.09 $0.09 7.6 0.00% $0.00

Can anyone tell me what is happening? I'm hardly getting clicks, impressions, anything.

I'm so befuddled. I don't know what to do or think.

I've changed my keywords several times to try to optimize as much as possible, my daily budget is okay. I have 53% served. Could it be it's just a slow time? I'm pretty new to this, so would appreciate any help. It would be nice to understand how Google works these keywords. I've listened to all the demos, done a lot of reading about it, but still not getting it obviously. Thanks so much.

I have also noticed a big drop in impressions......I think it could be related to the new Site Targeting if you are seeing it more on content sites...

Just my opinion....

I have also noticed the same low impressions and clicks on my very good ads. My clicks have dropped from an average of of 150 to about 50.

My impressions today seem rather low.

Just a couple of quick thoughts:

The most common reason, by far, for a sudden drop in impressions is that the advertiser has edited one or more of their ads. Even changing just a single character will mean that the ads will no longer show on search and/or content network sites, until they've been reviewed and approved.

Since this amounts to the difference between showing on one site, and potentially showing on hundreds of sites, a dramatic decrease in impressions can almost be expected.

If this turns out not to be a factor in the above cases, I'd suggest contacting AdWords support who can troubleshoot the account. Without seeing the account, questions regarding a decrease in impressions are next to impossible to answer.

Ok, thank you so much. I did send in a request for help at Google Adwords and got a reply. He said, in fact, the same thing you did, that it was probably because I had gone in and had been doing some editing, which I have, alot. I had no idea that it would affect it like that, but now I know, and will try to keep my hands off the editing for a bit and see of things improve. Thanks again so much. I've learned a lot already.

So what if you haven't done any editing?

I know you say to talk to your adwords rep..... but I'm sure there is something system wide...

I haven't touched a thing and my impressions have gone from over 1 million a day to 300K in a mater of a week.....

Could it be the new site targeting...?

Hey Heyday,

Several people have made similar statements.

Are you asking because you are now using site targeting and wonder if it is having an effect?

Or do you suspect that those who are using site targeting are "grabbing" the better sites to appear on and causing an ad saturation on these "better" sites"?

Or is it for some other reason you and others have asked?

I'm just a little more confused than usual right now :)

Yes I suspect it is related with site targeting... my initial reaction is that a higher priority is being put on site impressions right now......but I'm going to do some testing first....and call my rep.....

What if you haven't done any editing AND are on 'Search Match' only?

My impressions & clicks have dropped a lot but Site Targeting wouldn't explain this

Gmorgan, in cases like this, I'd really suggest contacting AdWords support. There are many reasons (and combinations of reasons) why impressions can fall, and a look at the account makes it much easier to at least begin the process of troubleshooting.

Examples of factors? Lowering daily budget lowers impressions. Increasing Max CPC will give you fewer impressions for a given budget. Substantially lowering Max CPC may put you way lower in the results, and fewer people may see you. Deleting some of your keywords, or having them go on-hold can substantially lower impressions. Changing your targeting from 'all countries' to a single country or region will lower your impressions. The target audience for your product or service all having time off from the job at the same time (teachers for instance) can lower your impressions. New and aggressive competitors with higher placed ads can lower your impressions. And so on.

Sometimes it can even be something entirely beyond anyone's control - as for example if you were to start advertising for 'stainless widget arrangements' at the same time that they're featured on Oprah's TV show - and then two weeks later no one on the planet cares about 'stainless widget arrangements' anymore. Silly example, I know. But I've seen it happen in practice many a time over the years, for real-world searches.
