How to keep out unwanted keywords?

...or even how to track them!

Hello,

my campaigns are on "widget" but nowhere I bid on "gadget" or "doodad".

While browsing my site's log file I noticed that there are a few occurrences when the visitor's referrer is a Google search page containing the word "gadget" or "doodad" in the search string, not "widget".

I doubt that they found me via the SERPS as those two words are not even in my text.

I am wondering - is it possible that Google showed them my ad for "widget" when they searched for "gadget"? Are they allowed to do that? How can I stop it from happening?

Thanks for insights!

D

This sounds like broad match:
[adwords.google.com...]

You can use negative keywords so your ad will not show on these searches:
