I was wondering why some of my Ads are not showing during the lunch time period. It seems that during that time period some of my best performing Ads just dissappear into thin air. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what is happening?

Has your daily budget been reached by that point in the day?

No my daily budget has not been reached, it is runnning at roughly half. In fact I raised my budget thinking that might be the problem, but to no avail.

If your ads are running at the rate that they will exceed the daily budget, AdWords will pause them at times during the day in an attempt to stretch out the impressions over the full day. So if you've exceeded 50% of your budget at 30% through the day, your ads will be paused for a while. Increase your budget and see if your ads run through the lunch hour.

Oshburg, I tend to agree with Oshburg, that your ads are not showing all the time due to a lower than needed daily budget. A couple of suggestions to confirm and/or adjust for this:

* Use the date range tool to see what your actual spend has been on a day-by-day basis going back a couple of weeks - and as compared to your daily budget. If you see that your budget is routinely met or exceeded, then that will give you a real clue that the daily budget is too low for 24/7 coverage

* Use the 'Recommended Budget' link on the Edit Campaign Settings page to see what budget the system suggests that you'll need to support your keyword list.

* If you want to have your ads show more often without raising your daily budget, then reduce your keyword list to only those that are most successful (as defined by you), or most important to you. This way, your ads will show more often during the day, and, even more importantly, they'll show more often for the words that bring you the best results.

Here's some general info on this topic, from the AdWords Help Center:

I have had the same problem with adwords not showing all the time during biz hours. Google wants to space them out over 24 hours so I don't exceed the budget.

I change my daily budget from 20.00 to 40.00 or 60.00 Google thinks I have more money to spend and shows the ads more often. I pause the ads at 6pm and turn them on again the next morning. This way I don't exceed the 20.00 a day that I want to spend and the ads show more often. I also pause the ads during the weekend as this is a business to business site and we don't get much traffic on the weekends.

I do wonder what Google thinks about me doing this though. Hope it doesn't make them mad.

I checked my daily budget going back two weeks and I only exceeded the daily budget one day so I am still wondering why my ads are not showing all the time. I just decided to raise my stronger key phrases budget, hopefully this works. Thanks for all the help!

Oshburg, I just wanted to make sure that you didn't meant that you had raised the Max CPC for your stronger key phrases. Doing this would be very likely to make your ads show less.

The reason for this is that if your click cost is higher, then fewer clicks will 'fit' into your daily budget - which means the ad is likely to show less for a given budget.

Sorry about the bad wording. I just raised my daily budget. I am happy (for now) with my CPC and positions.

Ahh. Got it.

Speaking of 'bad wording', does anyone else really hate it when they notice a big ugly typo in their posts (as in my last post, for example), but only after the 'edit' button has gone away?

AWA suggestion to Brett: allow fixing of typos up to 24 hours later, and charge 25 cents (or currency equivalent) per edit.

I'd pay! ;)
