i'd like to change the destination URL for one of my ads, but i don't want to lose my click history (CTR, etc.) for the ad and have to start all over. i thought i remembered someone saying that can happen if you change the ad text... is that true, and does it apply to changing the URL, too? thanks.

i have changed my destination url in the past, and if i recall correctly, they do consider that to be a "new ad" so you start over building your CTR.

whats worse, the changes i made were only in adding tracking codes to the end of the destination url.

if i am remembering correctly, and they haven't changed it, this seems to be a big weakness in the system.

google should incorporate an algorithm that is able to determine if the change is a significant one. changing the destination url, or changing one letter in the ad copy, for example, should not set and ad back.

If you are going to change URL's you'd be better off making an identical ad with the new URL to "compete" for a little while to get a good CTR then delete the old one.

You can also use powerposting, changing the destination URL per keyword and not touch your ad at all.
