... the API has one ...

Some days I end up researching keywords/phrases on Adwords Keyword Suggestion Tool for 10-12 hours straight. Just recently, it has been giving me no results after long periods of time on the tool. A shift in IP address seems to clear it.

Is there a limit to the number of searches that anyone knows of? I can't get a clear response (i.e. an answer that doesn't beat around the non-disclosure bush) from the support team.

You don't want to use Googles keyword suggestions tool. Let your competitors use it and drive prices up. Let me give you an example. I operate one of the largest downloadable software discounters. One of the hottest selling software is DVD authoring, DVD copying, DVD ripping etc. I've looked at what the tool suggested me and these were generic terms ("dvd ripper", "free dvd ripper", "dvd ripping", "rip dvds", etc.) Most terms were in the 15-35 cent range. What I did instead was I went to Download.Com and created a list of DVD rippers and related DVD software hosted there(the list is huge). I got more traffic, it converts really good and I pay 5-10 cents a click, while my competitors pay 50 cents.
The suggestion tool was created by Google to help amateurs. You absolutely don't want to use it in high competitive areas. Tell me what keywords you are after and I'll throw a few suggestions at you.

I just wanted to jump in with a small but important distinction:

The keyword tool that AdWords offers is not actually called a Keyword Suggestion tool, nor is it intended to be one.

Rather, it's intended to provide a jumping off point as you build your keyword lists. Many of the keywords it returns, for example, may serve you far better as negative keywords.

It's essentially intended to give you a list of words related to the word(s) you've plugged in, about which you'll then want to make informed decisions, based on your knowledge of your business, product, market, customers, etc.

Good point about negative keywords. The tool really should be used just as a pre-starter. For instance you'll almost NEVER see the tool give you common misspellings of a searched keyword, yet ROI on misspelled keywords is probably twice as high.
