Google Courtesy Credits

When you get a credit you did not ask for.

We switched from Google to Overture last fall for PPC, and I forgot that our CC with Google had expired.

They never sent me a notice, other than the original, and when I logged into google today for the first time after 6 months, I found that they have given me a Courtesy credit for almost $500 dollars.

Are they:

A) being friendly and trying to get me to restart my adwords campaign (I did spend about $20,000 in the past few years with them)

B) Its not a courtesy credit but an adjustment and they have transfered the amount to the collection agency, and I will get a nasty letter in a few days.

If its B:, it would have been nice of them to try to contact me by phone or mail or email.

Anybody have any experince with Google in this regard?

Are you sure the credit isn't from click fraud? I've had some inactive accounts receive credits before with no notice from Google about the adjustments.

I'd be hugely surprised if this were the case. But based on the information here, I can't really offer an opinion about what has happened.

Frankly, I'd just write AdWords support and directly ask. ;)

LOL, AWA. That's what we call reverse click fraud.

Actually it was an accounting error, they automatically reversed the credit, a fews days latter.

I may have found a possible explanation for these suddenly appearing and disappearing credits.

I found one of those in a prepay account that hasn't been used for a while. The original deposit was made before April 1 2004. (Google's bookyear ends March 30.) All campaigns were paused with a small amount left in the account. When I look at the My account/invoices page now, the original deposit has gone, as are the ad costs. They have been replaced with a Correction on April 6 2005 (mistaken as Google courtesy credit?) worth the original deposit and more Corrections (mistaken as reversals?) with the total amount spent so far. Leaves the exact amount still in the account on March 30 2005.
