Recently, my website went from rank 1 to 3 mysteriously without any chnage. I am still at 3 and my back links, page ranks, HTML are all better than the ones above me. However, one more change has happened. Earlier, the top 3 websites had 2 links each. So, we(3 companies) occupied top 6 slots. Now, this is what has happened.

Rank # links
*****************
1 2 (Company A)
2 1 (Company B)
3 1 (My company)

Company A does not advertise in Adwords. Company B advertises in adwords. But the link that is in the results is not the one that is in adwords. My company also advertises in adwords. My link in the results page is not the default link in adwords. Earlier, bothe compnay B as well as mine has 2 links and they were siliar to the adwords one as well. So, I have a feeling that google is trying to remove the links in results that are already in the adwords. They are probably doing this so that users click more ad rather than the search results.

has anyone else noticed this?

AWA and GG, the Google spokespersons, have stated numerous times that AdWords ads do NOT affect your natural listings.

Our experience would back this up. We have many search terms where we are number 1 and our AdWords ad is right beside it with the same URL.

Keep in mind that the natural search results fluctuate often. A change from 1 to 3 is not uncommon and there are a lot more factors involved then just back links.

Let's make it one more confirmation. :)
