Not content with claiming my own recent World Record for the lowest stats to get a kw in the Premium slot (42 clicks from 742 impressions across a month), it would appear that I've surpassed even that heady success.
Well; I started a tiny new campaign at the end of last week. This morning I find one of the phrases has hit the Premium Spot with the following stats...
Clicks = 0
Impressions = 5
Of course I know that reporting is not in real time!
And that's including Content traffic! Oh, and there are 19 other advertisers showing on Google for the same phrase...
Obviously, I must be a creative genius with the ability to write adword copy that kicks like a mule ;-)
Or, perhaps more feasibly and certainly more logically, is Google increasing the visibility of the Premium Slot by placing more ads in this position on kw's and phrases where they didn't exist before?
Increased visibility the of the Premium Spot would further increase awareness of its existence, which in turn would increase demand and desire to reach it. Demand, of course, begets competition. We saw, not that long ago, an increase in the number of ads that would actually show in the Premium Spot...
Are the standards for moving into the Premium Slot being lowered in a bid to maximise the returns from adwords customers targeting niche markets?
Or am I just that good? ;-)

Not that I am aware of, Syzygy.
Maybe your experience above is the result of early tests on a top-secret upcoming feature that reads your mind while you're just thinking about writing your next ad. Assuming, of course, that you're logged in while thinking.
Heheh. Sometimes I crack myself up!
Or am I just that good? ;-)
That's probably it. ;-)

I can't think of any other explanations other than this or the fact that the bar has lowered in some way.
If this "instant placement" supposition is the case, what's the criteria for such a decision? CPC? In my scenario, whilst it's not min bid, it is still very low.
Beyond that, from my limited understanding of all things adwords, it just isn't logical that a new ad for a kw phrase already used by 19 others would go straight "upstairs".
Obviously I must be missing something in respect of how ads are allocated this position. Regardless, I'm impressed, but also somewhat intrigued...

Lol on both points, AWA. I look forward to discovering more about psi-adwords™ as the technology develops - or perhaps I know already but it just hasn't logged in my brain yet...;-)
And that these stats did not show up in the account for three hours or so, due to typical server delays, per Syzygy's comment:
Of course I know that reporting is not in real time!
So Syzygy, what do your stats and placement look like today?

Too funny!
